Important: Read this before posting to this forum

  1. This forum is for questions related to the use of Apollo. We will answer some general choice modelling questions too, where appropriate, and time permitting. We cannot answer questions about how to estimate choice models with other software packages.
  2. There is a very detailed manual for Apollo available at http://www.ApolloChoiceModelling.com/manual.html. This contains detailed descriptions of the various Apollo functions, and numerous examples are available at http://www.ApolloChoiceModelling.com/examples.html. In addition, help files are available for all functions, using e.g. ?apollo_mnl
  3. Before asking a question on the forum, users are kindly requested to follow these steps:
    1. Check that the same issue has not already been addressed in the forum - there is a search tool.
    2. Ensure that the correct syntax has been used. For any function, detailed instructions are available directly in Apollo, e.g. by using ?apollo_mnl for apollo_mnl
    3. Check the frequently asked questions section on the Apollo website, which discusses some common issues/failures. Please see http://www.apollochoicemodelling.com/faq.html
    4. Make sure that R is using the latest official release of Apollo.
  4. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, then users should follow these steps when posting a question:
    1. provide full details on the issue, including the entire code and output, including any error messages
    2. posts will not immediately appear on the forum, but will be checked by a moderator first. This may take a day or two at busy times. There is no need to submit the post multiple times.

Re: ICLV model questions

That makes sense. Thank you very much for your answer! :) EDIT: I got another question related to metrokim217's question about scaling: Is there a reason to scale the variance of the LV rather than setting the scale of the LV equal to the scale of an indicator (or the indicator which is assumed to b...

Re: ICLV model questions

Hello everyone, sorry to bring this old forum thread back to life, but I didn't want to open a new thread for my question: I have a data set where the ICLV model works fine if I only use socio-demographic variables for the structural equations. On the other hand I read the following in the "Hand...

Hybrid Choice Model (HCM) using Bayesian estimation

Hello everybody, I recently read Article “ Hess et al. (2018) - Analysis of mode choice for intercity travel: Application of a hybrid choice model to two distinct US corridors) ” in which the Hybrid Choice Model was estimated using the Bayesian approach. Now I wanted to try estimating a HCM using HB ...

Re: Covariates and "left right effect" in WTP space

Hi Stephane,

thank you very much for the tip. I will take this into account. However, just out of curiosity: Does my specification for the price attribute work, or have I missed something, e.g. wrong interpretation of the coefficients?

Best wishes
Nico

Re: Covariates and "left right effect" in WTP space

Good idea! The only problem with my data is that I have two sets of data (N = 941 and N = 58). With the second dataset, I have too few observations, especially in some income classes, to estimate five parameters for price. In total, I have three variables whose influence on the price coefficie...

Re: Covariates and "left right effect" in WTP space

Okay, thanks. Actually, I do not have a problem with missing values. A small example: In your survey, a respondent has an income of 2000 euros per month and the average income is 3000 euros. So it can be said that this participant's income is two thirds of the median income. It is possible to interp...

Re: Covariates and "left right effect" in WTP space

Hi Stephane, Thanks for your quick response. I have two questions about it: (1) My code now looks as follows: b_Price_value = ( b_Price + b_TariffSwitched_Price * COV_TariffSwitched ) * ( COV_Income / COV_Income_Mean ) ^ elast_Price_Income * ( COV_PriceMonthly / COV_PriceMonthly_Mean ) ^ elast_Price...

Covariates and "left right effect" in WTP space

Hello, everyone, I have two questions for you experts. ;) (1) Covariates in WTP space I have formulated a MIXL model in WTP space (Bayesian estimation) and would like to incorporate some covariates. I have specified the parameters as follows... wtp_Attribute1Level2_value = wtp_Attribute1Level2 + ## ...

Re: Combine data: Forced choice + Free Choice (Dual Response Data)

Okay, in my case the scale parameter is definitely different from 1: Mean SD mu_CBC 0.6887 0.0291 mu_SDR 1.0000 NA The "CBC" is part of the survey with the forced choice sets, the "SDR" the part with the free choice sets. How can I test, " [...] whether a joint model is not ...

Convergence with different types of draws

Hello, everyone, i would like to know from you if there is a rule of thumb, when to use which kind of draws (Halton, Sobol, MLHS, ...)? During my research, severel papers recommended not to use Halton draws due to correlation with a high number of parameters. For example, the paper... Czajkowski, Mi...
